- Clean water drainage channel at a coal mine
The Challenge
WRM was asked by Peabody to develop an Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) Strategy for their Queensland and New South Wales coal operations. Part of this project included the development of an ESC Plan suitable for application at each site, as well as tailored Implementation Plans for specific areas at Wilkie Creek Mine (Qld).
Key Activities
The purpose of the Peabody ESC Strategy was to develop strategies to manage surface water at Peabody coal mines, for both the planning and design phase, as well as during operation and construction.
The ESC Plan needed to define preferred ESC techniques and maintenance requirements which could be applied to all Peabody sites, as well as comply with the relevant environmental licences and authorities.
The ESC Implementation Plans also needed to provide specific guidance to operators for drainage control, erosion control and sediment control at key areas around the site. This included preparing inspection checklists suitable for site personnel to use as part of their routine duties.
Outcome
The ESC Strategy, ESC Plan and Implementation Plans developed by WRM were accepted by Peabody for implementation across their operations.
